Welcome to Term 2 Week 8

Welcome to Week 8

Celebrating Av性爱 Christi Feast Day

The Feast of the Av性爱 Christi is a significant event in the life of the Catholic Church. It is a time, according to Pope Francis, 鈥渇or Christians to remember that God will meet their basic needs to eat and to be filled with the joy and amazement of receiving loving nourishment from Jesus Christ.鈥

The Pope emphasises that the Eucharist is also a call to action for Christians: 鈥渨e can evaluate our Eucharistic adoration when we take care of our neighbour like Jesus does. There is hunger for food around us, but also for companionship; there is hunger for consolation, friendship, good humour; there is hunger for attention, there is hunger to be evangelised. We find this in the Eucharistic bread 鈥 the attention of Christ to our needs and the invitation to do the same toward those who are beside us. We need to eat and feed others.鈥

Pope Francis says that 鈥淛esus Christ鈥檚 self-giving presence is key to understanding the Eucharist鈥. He says that 鈥渨e certainly need to nourish ourselves, but we also need to be satisfied, to know that the nourishment is given to us out of love. In the Body and Blood of Christ, we find his presence, his life given for each of us. He not only gives us help to go forward, but he gives us himself 鈥 he makes himself our traveling companion, he enters into our affairs, he visits us when we are lonely, giving us back a sense of enthusiasm.鈥

It is with a great sense of confidence then that we model Christ and seek to do good works for others; to be the Good Samaritan and reach out to those in need.

In gathering as a K-12 school community on Friday last week to commemorate Av性爱 Christi Feast Day, it was important therefore to commence the day with a celebration of the Eucharist. Led by Fr Jean-Noel, the beautiful celebration of Mass connected us together as one community and allowed us to reflect on the true meaning of the Av性爱 Christi. We are most grateful to Fr Jean-Noel for giving of his time to share in this very special celebration with us.

The day also allowed us to reflect on the uniqueness of our community and what it means to be a part of this very special school. This year鈥檚 theme 鈥榮tronger as one鈥 promoted the concept that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts and highlighted the fact we all belong 鈥 we all have our own place and are encouraged to contribute our gifts to grow our positive school culture. This is what is means to be the Av性爱 Christi 鈥 the Body of Christ 鈥 with each part having a critical role to play.

To ensure that our community is stronger as one, we live out our College values in a genuine way. In modeling Jesus, we strive to be courageous, compassionate and committed each and every day.

In being courageous we:

  • step outside of our comfort zone to discover and grow

  • stand up for what we know is right

  • make a positive difference to our community

  • face challenges with resilience and confidence

In being compassionate we:

  • are truly present for others

  • are respectful, inclusive and accepting always

  • support and care through our actions and words

  • see the gifts of those around us

In being committed we:

  • fully invest ourselves in the life of the College

  • proudly let our light shine

  • capture every growth opportunity presented to us

  • uphold the Av性爱 Christi legacy with pride

In genuinely living our values, we create a flourishing and joyful school community where people know they belong and are empowered to be outstanding for others.

Our Feast Day was an outstanding success, with students fully investing themselves in the multiple activities and events on offer. The day was also an important fundraising event where we raised significant money for key organisations supporting those in need.

It was excellent to witness students from across our K to 12 year levels celebrating the day together as one. We are very grateful to our dedicated staff for their wonderful support of the day. We also acknowledge our terrific Year 12 leadership group for their contribution to the success of the day.

Best wishes and every blessing.

Week 8 Update

On Friday we had our wonderful Av性爱 Christi Day, a fantastic K to 12 event. Events like Friday provide an opportunity for students, and educators to come together, fostering a sense of belonging within the school community. By engaging in shared activities and experiences, individuals develop connections and establish relationships beyond the classroom. The Talent Quest Show exceeded all expectations, with an extraordinary display of talent across a wide range of disciplines. From mesmerizing musical performances to captivating dance routines and spellbinding theatrical acts, our students demonstrated exceptional abilities that left the audience in awe. The level of preparation and commitment displayed by our young performers was truly commendable.

The supportive and encouraging atmosphere during the Talent Quest Show was one of the highlights of the event. Students from different grade levels cheered each other on, offering words of encouragement and appreciation for their fellow performers. This sense of camaraderie and unity truly exemplified the strength of our school community and the positive values we uphold.

Cross Country:

Last week we had to make the unfortunate call of canceling the Cross Country due to severe weather. The rescheduled event will take place this Friday (16 June) and the weather is looking perfect. More information has been emailed to families in Years 3-6.

First Holy Communion:

I wanted to extend my heartfelt wishes and blessings to our Year 4 students who will be having their First Holy Communion this coming weekend. May their first Holy Communion be a joyous and memorable occasion, filled with blessings, peace, and happiness. May our students feel the embrace of their loved ones and the support of their community as they embark on this spiritual journey.

Lifelink Launch:

On Wednesday 7 June, the official launch of Lifelink Day for Primary Schools took place at Newman College. Some of our students had the privilege of attending the event and listening to the impactful words of Archbishop Timothy Costelloe. The Archbishop reminded us of the invaluable work carried out by Lifelink agencies in assisting individuals within our community, highlighting how the funds we raise support these agencies. Furthermore, the Archbishop emphasized that supporting Lifelink is a tangible way to follow Jesus' example and stand in solidarity with those in need.

Morning Drop off:

A friendly reminder to families that the school鈥檚 duty of care in the morning starts at 8.15am. Families are encouraged not to drop their children off at school before this time as they would be unsupervised. If you require an earlier drop-off, Av性爱 Australia is open from 7.00am. Your child鈥檚 safety is of the utmost importance to us; therefore, we appreciate your support in this matter.

Head of Junior School
