The number of metallic elements known as rare-earth elements, which are in high demand.
Rare, sought-after metals
RARE-EARTH ELEMENTS (REEs) are 17 metallic elements with similar properties, which therefore often occur together in nature. The group consists primarily of lanthanum, lanthanides and yttrium, and scandium is sometimes also included.
鈥淪ome of these metals play a key role in the energy transition,鈥 explains researcher Axel Sj枚qvist. 鈥淎 neodymium magnet is the strongest permanent magnet that can be produced today. It therefore plays an important role in energy efficiency, enabling electric motors and generators to be made stronger at the same size or lighter while maintaining power, compared to other magnets. Neodymium magnets are used in wind turbines and electric cars, as well as in washing machines and electric scooters.鈥

Digital safe spaces
Bullying and harassment online have led people who feel victimised to create their own digital environments that are free from harassment. These are known as digital safe spaces. In these environments, there is a focus on providing support and creating a sense of wellbeing among participants.
