The Research Network for Sustainable Teachership
Short description
Therése Skoog and Elin Hoff Brattberg, together with colleagues from Linköping, Karlstad, and Umeå universities, have received a grant from Forte to establish an interdisciplinary research network. The goal is to create better conditions for solving the complex problem of high rates of ill health among teachers.
Background and objectives
Schools are Sweden's largest workplace and have long been described as one of Sweden's worst working environments. School staff face a very demanding work situation and high levels of work- and stress-related mental health issues, even compared to other professional groups. As many as 50% of teachers are considering leaving the profession. The situation threatens the school system as a socially sustainable workplace.
–&²Ô²ú²õ±è;The problem is multifaceted and complex. Therefore, broad collaboration is required to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the issue, which in turn is a prerequisite for effective measures, says Therése Skoog, who will lead the research network.
The aim is both to establish collaboration between researchers from various scientific disciplines who share an interest in research and practice that benefits teachers' mental health and a sustainable working life for teachers, and to serve as a platform to facilitate knowledge exchange and relationship building between researchers and practitioners.
