What is NORKOM?
The collaboration that laid the foundation for the Nordic Local Government Research Network (NORKOM) began in 1992, and the network was formally established in 2014. NORKOM鈥檚 purpose is to bring together scholars of local government and others interested in municipal research in order to increase and disseminate knowledge about municipalities, local politics, and public administration in the Nordic countries, using the Nordic languages. The network convenes annually for a working conference on the last weekend of November to broaden and deepen research and to strengthen the Nordic dimension.
The Nordic Conference on Local Government Research is aimed at scholars whose research focuses on municipalities, regions, or other forms of local governance. This includes topics such as local democracy, administration, finance, leadership, multi-level governance, municipal structures and reforms, and related areas approached from various academic disciplines. Diversity and breadth in both methods and themes are encouraged and appreciated.
