The Brave Space – Making room for courage and judgment in the University
The symposium The Brave Space is grounded in the theme of preparedness to engage in dialogues, conversations, and situations marked by tension, conflict, and responsibility. Rather than avoiding the difficult, we invite reflection on professional roles, academic norms, and pedagogical practices within the university. Through presentations, concrete examples, and experience-based discussions, we highlight how judgment can be practiced in situations where norms clash, roles are tested, and no simple answers exist. The goal is not consensus, but to enable professional and institutional development through increased awareness and shared exploration.
The symposium is aimed at researchers, teachers, technicians, coordinators, study counselors, and other administrative staff working in environments where goal conflicts, expectations, and responsibilities intersect, where professional and human judgment becomes crucial. The event is part of Wellbeing Makerspace, a development initiative at HDK-Valand where collegial learning and everyday academic life come together, with a focus on the areas of academic work where judgment, responsibility, and professional ethics take center stage.
