Students who completed the final year of a degree programme at the Department of Applied IT were thanked during a closing ceremony in Vasaparken earlier this week — including the very first cohort from the Master's programme Human-centered Artificial Intelligence.

Both students and teachers took to the stage to speak. The former dean of the dismantled IT Faculty gave a speech reminding attendees of the importance of critical thinking in a society where knowledge and education are increasingly crowded out by questionable sources of information.

From the students' side, Josephine Araba Aidoo and Eva Kolarovská from the Master in Communication programme took to the stage to reflect on their time in the programme and the knowledge they carry with them into the future.

Emmy Thoursie from the Bachelor's programme in Information Systems reminded everyone not to make room for any “imposter syndrome” — the feeling of not being the right person for a role and not belonging. She stressed that the students have gained a great deal of knowledge and now have the tools to apply it in working life.

Petrus Hagby, chair of the Student Union's IT section, talked about how things don’t always go as planned, and that it’s sometimes the unexpected events and people you didn’t know you would meet that matter most. In the end, most things work out, was his message.
